JAPAN, a book.

I was out and about the other day and I found a book simply named JAPAN.  It brought back memories of someone and something and I couldn't remember.  I pondered and wondered and talked it over with a friend and discovered, because of something in the book.............  MY father had taught me at some time how to count to ten in Japanese.  It reminded me of the John Grisham book that referred to class action lawsuits?????????  Go figure, ey?  (I didn't know the why or the how but in my mind someplace were memories that needed to be rediscovered.  Do you s'pose our minds are truly like computers and if we know where to look WE will find answers.)

Anyways the books last copyright was 1965, By Franklin Publications, Inc.  and I simply love the dang thing......... and here's why; when I was little, my great-grandfather and great-grandmother were still alive and much loved in the town of Dos Palos.  My g'grandmother passed and my g-g-pa lived for a bit and had to be hospitalized in the local hospital.  I think he was perhaps the oldest resident of the town at the time and everybody, simply everybody loved him.  He was jolly and smoked a pipe and people came from miles around just to simply visit him.  They took the time and they all seemed to simply LOVE him????????  Go figure, ey, as today old folks are considered throw-away people and put off someplace simply to die and be alone.  hmmmmmmm  (At the time of my first daughter's birth, my doctor still made house calls and I adored him, as he was simply a good hearted man.  During the diet pill revoltution he even went to jail for his prescribing diet pills.  He loved his folks and he believed, back in the day what the AMA and pharmaceutical companies told him............  he wasn't the diet doctor that left me on the table alone with a psychotic nurse that held my legs together,  NO, I had abandoned him because I wanted to lose weight but when my third child; a son was born I went back and even though my son weighed 10 pounds 3 ounces I had no problems, same as with my oldest.  hmmmmmmmm  My doctor was a simple man and he made mistakes but he had his patients interests and health at heart, unlike the money hungry doctors of today.  Thank you mygod for giving me Dr. Saaty and thank you for his dedication to his patients.

Back on topic............  the JAPAN book, here's a excerpt::
Traditionally, Japanese grandparents, parents, and children all live together in an extended or joint family dwelling.  Sometimes Japanese families live in joint family homes today.

The oldest people in the household are considered the most important.  The job of every person in the family depends on his age.  Certain kinds of work are for the men, and the women have jobs that are just for them.  Everyone helps to do the work in and around the house.

In farm villages, the grandfather and grandmother usually care for animals such as chickens and oxen.  The grandfather helps out in the fields and at harvest time, too.  In addition, both grandparents may help in the family's second occupation.  What things might they help make in a farm home or in a workshop?

The Japanese farm mother is very busy.  She sews, weaves, and mends,  She works in the wo
fields.  She shops for food, cleans the house, washes the clothes, and takes care of the children.  Why and in what, ways does the life of the Japanese city mother differ from that of farm women?

.......the book goes into much detail of the family culture and it reminds me of the way I was raised????????  (BTW, my dad was in the Merchant Marines during WWII as he couldn't get into the regular military as he had a hole in his heart and he served on a ship and worked similar to the military only he served them as a chef.  hmmmmmmmmmm  He did the same physical exercises with them but didn't have the benefits of the military.  (hmmmmmmmmmmm, much like the contractors are of today, eh?)

Ich imeans one. (一)
the "i" sounds like "ea" in "each" and the "chee" is like "cheek"
When spoken quickly, the "ee" part is not or barely pronounced and the whole word sounds like "each".
ni means two (二) sounds like "knee"
san means three (三)
sounds like "sahn"
shi means four (四)
sounds just like "she"
Can alternately be pronounced "yon" (sounds like "yohn", not like "yawn").
go means five (五)
English speakers have a tendency to say the word "go" as if it were spelled "gohw". When you say "go" in Japanese, you need to leave your mouth rounded when you're done to prevent slipping towards a "w" sound.
roku means six (六)
the R is pronounced like a cross between R and L, so when you say it it should sound similar to "loh-koo". But an English R is pronounced at the center of the tongue, and an English L is pronounced about a quarter of an inch from the tip of the tongue, but the Japanese r is pronounced using only the very tip of the tongue.
shichi means seven (七)
sounds like "she-chee", with a hint of tch on the "chee"
can also be pronounced "nana" (the As are pronounced "ah")
hachi means eight (八)
sounds like "ha!" then "tchee".
kyuu means nine (九)
sounds like the letter "q". Similarly to "go", English speakers tend to pronounce it as "kyoow" - make sure to keep your mouth rounded on the "oo" sound and not to slip towards "w".
juu means ten (十)
pronounced "joo", with a teensy-tiny bit of zh on the j

The oldest people in the household are considered the most important..............  (please re-read that sentence and think to yourself; is that how the people in the US think?????????  ...where did 'WE' learn otherwise, were we perhaps some how, some way BRAINWASHED.    I'll tell you from what I've learned in the last few years that NOPE, that ain't at all how US children think, old folks are throw-aways and yes, that from my own children that I love more than anything in my life.........  WHO taught US children and who keeps regular folks from finding out about foreign cultures?????????)
